AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. (AFH) began its 13th Annual Red Ribbon Toy Drive on Monday, November 5, 2007. The Annual Red Ribbon Toy Drive is a collaboration of AFH, Texas Children’s Hospital, Harris County Hospital District, the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, and the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston.
This year, the Drive acknowledges its first title sponsor, Reliant Energy, which is providing funds to directly support the 2007 Drive, as well as continuing its historical contribution of toys collected throughout the fall.
The 13th annual Red Ribbon Toy Drive serves children living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. The public is encouraged to donate new, unwrapped toys appropriate for children between birth and age 12 now through Friday, December 7, 2007 at the following designated toy drop-off locations:
- AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc., located at 3202 Weslayan, Houston 77027
- all 12 Houston-area MAC Cosmetics store locations
- 14 Houston-area GAP store locations
- All seven Houston-area Visible Changes locations
- SW Freeway and Uptown Park Potbelly Sandwich locations
- Resurrection Metropolitan Community Church, located at 2025 West 11th Street, Houston
- Bioscrip Pharmacy, located at 4101 Greenbriar, Suite 235
- The Artful Corner, located at 3423 White Oak
- The Alley Theatre box office located at 615 Texas Avenue
- The Houston Museum of Natural Science, located at One Hermann Circle Drive in Hermann Park
2007 Red Ribbon Toy Drive sponsors include all of the drop box locations, as well as: Reliant Energy, Inc.; KHJZ-FM Smooth Jazz 95.7 The Wave; KTBU-TV Channel 55 The Tube; Bayou City Boys Club; Continental Airlines; Lehman Brothers; Neiman Marcus; Weingarten Realty Investors; and Wulfe Management Services, Inc.
The 2007 Drive will feature two public events:
On Friday, November 23rd, KHJZ-FM Smooth Jazz 95.7 The Wave will hold court at First Colony Mall in Sugar Land to feature the Red Ribbon Toy Drive. Station DJs and AFH representatives will be on hand from 10am to 2pm to collect toys and celebrate music and the advent of the holiday season.
On December 7-9, The Artful Corner will host its 4th Annual Holiday Market at their location on 3423 White Oak Drive in the Heights. The indoor/outdoor event will showcase several outstanding local artists and will also feature an art raffle, proceeds from which will go to benefit AFH. Toy collection bins will also be on site.
