Legacy Community Health Services

At Legacy, we empower our clients to lead a better life by providing premium, compassionate primary health care services. We are committed to serving a diverse community including those persons who have traditionally faced problems accessing quality health care.

We have been at the forefront of responding to the HIV epidemic since 1985 when we became the city's first, and the nation's second alternative HIV antibody testing site. We understand the importance of offering tailored health care to all of our HIV-positive patients while addressing their unique needs in a friendly, non-judgmental and culturally sensitive environment.

Our focus is to make a positive difference in each of the lives we touch. In 2008, Legacy served 21,676 (approximately 1,800/month) men, women and teens with nearly 68,683 patient/client visits for HIV and Hepatitis C testing and counseling, syphilis testing and counseling, STD screening and treatment, primary HIV health care, early intervention, disease prevention and education, medical case management, outreach, and other health services addressing specific needs.

By joining Legacy's Team or by making a donation, you help us help so many. Here are a few examples of how your support can make a difference in the lives of our clients:

▪ $3,750 helps us pay for 10 clients to go through an 8-week wellness/fitness program.
▪ $2,750 helps us provide 50 clients an eye exam by an Optometrist.
▪ $3,250 helps us provide 10 clients with the Next Step program for those newly diagnosed as HIV+.
▪ $12,000 helps us provide 10 clients with 1 month of HIV medication.
▪ $1,500 helps us provide 20 clients a rapid HIV test that includes a safer sex educational session.
▪ $250 helps us provide 500 safer sex kits to our clients.

About our clients:
71% of our clients are male, 28% are female, and 1% are transgender.
36% of our clients are African-American, 35% are White, 24% are Hispanic, 3% are Asian, and 1% are Native-American.
41% of our clients are heterosexual, 38% are gay/lesbian, and 7% are bisexual.
