HBC Seeks General Support for its Programs

Over the last twelve years, HBC has been very innovative in its approach to helping people with chronic health conditions manage side effects. By the time programs evolve into a practical and efficient module, much time and money has been spent out of its general operating account.

For example, Ellen's Hand is a program by which solicitations are made to vitamin companies for inventory that will expire in six to twelve months. These donations become a tax write-off for the donor and are translated into direct services for clients.

Another program we initiated is called Health Talks Houston (HTH). HTH is the name of our education events that we film for broadcast on local cable stations. Very well known lecturers such as Jon Kaiser, MD, Shannon Schrader, MD, Lark Lands, and others, are flown to Houston to present the latest information about emerging therapies. It has always been my wish that all people living with chronic health conditions could have the same access to these amazing lecturers as I do.

To sustain these amazing programs, I am asking you to make a donation on this AIDS Walk web page. We don't host any other major fund raising events throughout the year. This is it.

It's the 19th Annual AIDS Walk Houston. It will take place on Sunday, March 9. It is an exciting 5K walk event that raises money for HIV/AIDS initiatives throughout Houston, increases community awareness and educates Houstonians about HIV/AIDS.

Please assist me in reaching my fundraising goal. Now, more than ever, we need to join to fight this preventable disease that is affecting so many individuals in Houston and th

Many folks don't know much about Houston Buyers Club other than it looks like a fancy vitamin store that has some sort of nonprofit focus. Other the years, I've heard clients shopping in the store say, "I shop here because they donate to AIDS services."

The reality is, Houston Buyers Club (HBC) IS the nonprofit service. Twelve years ago, HBC started in order to help people living with HIV gain access to beneficial nutritional supplements that were considered very expensive and unaffordable. Expensive medication and primary medical care costs kept many from adding these beneficial nutritional supplements to their medication regimens.

A year later, effective HIV therapies appeared on the scene that caused horrible side effects and kept many people living with HIV from having a normal life. Neuropathy (severe pain in the toes, feet, legs, hands), uncontrollable diarrhea, gas, and bloating, wasting syndrome, liver disease, and many more successfully tempted HIV patients to stop taking their medications in order to improve their quality of life - a life free of side effects.

At that time, we were connected to researchers, registered dietitians, physicians, treatment advocates throughout the country who shared with us nutritional therapies that would have an impact on side effect management. They worked and word spread to physicians as well as people living with HIV.

Since then, we have helped many many people living with HIV and other chronic health conditions relieve side effects caused by prescribed medications or by the disease itself. And, HBC doesn't just help people with HIV. We have helped many with diabetes, obesity, cancer, hepatitis and other conditions improve wellness and manage side effects.
