Help AFH Use Southern Know-How to Defeat HIV/AIDS

Click to view the AFH 2017 Annual Report

The narrative of HIV/AIDS in the Southern states tells us that to reduce drastically transmission rates a different approach is needed, especially if we want Houston to become the first Southern city to reduce transmissions to zero. The Deep South states (including Texas) have had the highest HIV and AIDS diagnosis rates and numbers in the US; accounting for 52% of undiagnosed HIV infections and 51% of all HIV diagnoses despite representing little more than only 37% of the US population. Lastly, the Deep South region has the highest rates of new HIV diagnoses of any U.S. region. To achieve better outcomes requires AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. to use our unique brand of Southern Know-How.

Southern Know-How means knowing the community and how stigma, health disparities, and day-to-day concerns stop individuals from being tested. It also requires knowing what it takes to get individuals through the front door.

Take a few minutes and read our 2017 Annual Report. The individual stories will tell you more about AFH’s know how and how AFH is changing the story of HIV/AIDS in the south. Then consider making a donation to help end HIV/AIDS in our community.

AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. (AFH) leads the innovative efforts in the prevention of new HIV infections and empowers individuals, families, and communities affected by HIV/AIDS to create and sustain healthy lives.

AIDS Foundation Houston, Inc. envisions a supportive community free of new HIV infections where individuals affected by HIV/AIDS lead healthy and productive lives without stigma and discrimination.
