Capacity Building Assistance
AFH has a 20 year history of delivering Capacity-Building Assistance within correctional settings and with community-based organizations who work to impact the HIV epidemic. We provide information dissemination services, training, and technical assistance, including the facilitation of peer-to-peer learning. Among the programs we offer:
- Wall Talk - Peer Education Program - Wall Talk is a community-level, multi-session, adaptable intervention for people within a correctional facility. It trains peer educators to teach educational classes that increase knowledge, prevention, and treatment for HIV and other chronic illnesses and diseases within the prison population.
- HIV/STD Awareness Training & Classes - Are you an organization interested in receiving HIV, STD, and sexual health training? Click here to learn more!
- Human Side of HIV - AFH annually hosts a Learning Institute in Houston, Texas to build the skills of HIV, medical, and social service providers who intersect with HIV transmission and treatment adherence. The training addresses advances in HIV treatment and prevention, health equity, institutional racism, social determinants of health, and providing culturally appropriate and sensitive services.
- PrEP Awareness and Access - Are you a physician in the Greater Houston area interested in providing PrEP? Please contact Jovaun Hicks (firstname.lastname@example.org) for training and technical assistance.
